FAQ
- Q
How do I locate the import tariff for my product?
AThe CBP website https://www.cbp.gov/ has a lot of information regarding Mexico customs and duty.
To find your products import tariff amount, you’ll need first to locate its HS code.
Your customs broker can help you with this.
You’ll then use this code on the provided tariffs database to identify what amount has been applied to your products.
- Q
Do I need to pay insurance for my goods from China?
AIf you are shipping on CIF terms, you won’t have to pay for the insurance.
This is because CIF covers the insurance bit of shipping.
That’s why it is called ‘cost insurance freight.’
Please note:
In as much as CIF include goods insurance, the terms of this insurance vary with different shipping companies.
So, if for instance, you let your supplier handle the shipping, you lose control of what shipping method they opt for.
They may decide to choose the cheapest method, which again, you have no control over.
To be on the safe side, it is best if you contact your freight forwarder in China to know what the insurance covers.
- Q
Do I need to pay any duties and taxes in China?
AHonestly NO.
You don’t need to pay any taxes in China.
The expense that you’ll incur is the transport costs to the loading port in China.
Also, you’ll have to cater for the documentation costs in China.
Note that all these charges are included in every incoterm issued in China.
From FOB to everything else. So you won’t even have to bother about them.
Unless of course, you source your goods on EXW terms.
